Hi Audrey,
Not sure about the links with RA, but I feel like this sometimes, however, think it's to do with my back and general feelings of weakness, and have been referred to see a neurologist. To put your mind at rest, I definitely think you should try and see your GP as soon as possible; it could be meds related, or middle ear infection, or something else.
Take care,
love,

Hi Audrey - I too have these problems BUT I am almost sure mine are caused by replacements/one leg longer than the other etc etc. I am very very unsteady without my sticks.

Hi Audrey,
I often get this too ... especially when I'm having a flare. It feels almost like an inner ear infection where you are slightly disorientated and your feet don't quite land where you expect them too.
I can't say I have any cures for it ... I just try to stay off my feet or rely far more heavily on my stick. I also try to make sure I'm walking alongside a fence or wall so that I have something to hang onto with my spare hand.
I'm sorry you're experiencing this and I hope it goes away soon!
x x Joanna

I have this too, could be any number of things, apart from RA l have Fibromyalgia which gives lots of people rubbish balance and l have Neuropathy, which can also affect balance!
I saw a podiatrist who gave me some made to measure insoles which have helped a bit.
Using a stick is helpful for balance but also alerts others to be aware you may be unsteady.

Yes, I have bouts of unteadyness and dizziness. I use a stick to help me stay upright, not sure if it's RA or the drugs that cause it. Once I was walking along, minding my business when I just started to keel over, as if someone had pushed me in the back. Quite unnerving a the time.

Hi Audrey, yes me too, have had balance and dizziness problems for around 2 years. Saw a neurologist in Summer 2008 and couldnt find anything specific. Have mentioned it a few times at the rheumy, they dont say anything, i have actually fell to the side a few times, the last time when out with my daughters about 2 months ago. No idea what causes it BARBARA

Hi, I have RA and I get this, and to be quite honest I have gone on and on about it for ages to my Rheumy and its taken very lightly. My physio thought it was perhaps a problem with the nerves coming from my back to my legs and asked the Rheum for an MRI scan but he refused as he said he could not find any problem with the nerves from physical examination. He also added that if it was causing a significant impact to my life (well if stumbling over a lot isnt causing an impact on a persons life I do not know what would be!) he would refer me to an orthapaedic clinic, dont know if this is the answer but I have accepted this offer.

Lizzie, its awful that they dont take it very seriously. I have fallen a few times, the last one a couple of months ago when out with the girls, as I got off the bus I fell to the side and went right over, luckily not hurt, just shaken. Have mentioned this, but they just carry on writing and say nothing. Hope the appt gets you somewhere. Take care x BARBARA

Do you find it annoying when you tell the docs something, and they either don't hear, or don't want to hear? It's very frustrating.

Hi Everyone
Again thanks for your support and advice been to see GP and she said it is to do with my phybromyalga (think that is spelt right) and I said why have i got that as well and she just yes a lot of people with RA get it. ask her if there was anything i can do she said no just be careful and rest it if you get a bad period with it. I have an appoinment with the rummy Nurses on 25 may they are going to try me on Anti TNF so will tell them about it possibly get the same answer but at least I know it is not my middle ear or i have not got a virus.
it makes you feel so low this RA does and when they add things to it it makes you feel even worse but I keep smiling and keep read the advice and differant things you lovely people put on the Forum so keep doing it if only to keep me smiling.
God Bless you all
Audrey.
